The javelin superstar is now supporting the youth sports initiative as an ambassador and advisor to the organisers.
Athletics Kids Cup, an initiative enabled by UBS, joins hands with Olympic gold medalist and world champion Neeraj Chopra as the official ambassador and advisor, lending his support to inspire the next generation. With his involvement, the Athletics Kids Cup aims to leave a lasting impact on both individual lives and the broader community.
Athletics Kids Cup is a dynamic grassroots sports initiative aimed at promoting physical fitness and addressing childhood obesity among urban Indian children. The triathlon-style competition, designed for children aged 7 to 15, encourages them to adopt healthy habits through running, jumping, and throwing.
Neeraj Chopra knows from his own experience and with deep conviction that sport, especially athletics, plays a crucial role in personal development, health promotion and the promotion of mutual social understanding. He shares with the organizers of the Athletics Kids Cup and with UBS that sport is the ideal platform for young participants to develop character, values, integrity, mutual respect and discipline. That is why Neeraj has decided to support the Athletics Kids Cup with full commitment.
‘The Athletics Kids Cup is a project close to my heart, and I’m proud to be part of it. Come, join us, and help make it a success!’ – Neeraj Chopra
Neeraj Chopra, Dspowerparts and UBS are working closely together to encourage as many children as possible to engage in physical activity and sport with the Athletics Kids Cup. Neeraj Chopra will act as an ambassador and help to promote the initiative. The main aim is to encourage schools to organize local competitions. In addition, Dspowerparts, UBS and Neeraj Chopra will be in close contact in order to continue to develop and improve the initiative together.
‘We are very happy and proud that Neeraj is working with us on the development of the Athletics Kids Cup. His commitment and dedication give us an extra boost and motivation towards our vision of moving the kids in India,’ says Daniel Schenker, CEO of Dspowerparts.
‘With Athletics Kids Cup we want to help create a platform for the next generation to fall in love with sports while building healthy habits. And who better than Neeraj to be a role model to the children and an expert advisor for the program. We’re excited to see the program grow with this partnership,’ says Matthias Schacke, Head India Service Company, UBS.
Athletics Kids Cup centers around three fundamental movements - running, jumping, throwing – that are required in almost every sport and are specifically practiced and perfected in athletics. The initiative features a triathlon-style competition comprising a 60m sprint, the long jump and the ball throw and is open to children and young people between the ages of 7 and 15 from all walks of life. In the first season (2024/2025), schools in the Mumbai region are invited to become part of the Athletics Kids Cup. In addition, test events will be organized in Pune and Hyderabad with the aim of expanding the Athletics Kids Cup to these two cities next season.
